PROJECT 1
Land Acquisition (COMPLETED)
$4 Million
Recently, Alabama 4-H was gifted the 108 acres on which the 4-H Center is currently located. Through this, we are able to maximize our current assets by constructing much-needed dormitories and dining and kitchen facilities on our current site.
PROJECT 2
Expanded Dining and New Kitchen
$5.3 Million
As Alabama 4-H continues to engage more youth throughout our state, we also must strengthen our current infrastructure. 4-H is limited to the current 185-seat dining facility. To maximize efficiency in dining services, both in group seating, food preparation and delivery, this expansion will double the size of group seating. By growing capacity in this fashion, we can increase the number of 4-H youth who benefit from center programs and improve food-service efficiency.
PROJECT 3
Alabama 4-H Fund for Excellence
$500,000
The Alabama 4-H Foundation’s Fund for Excellence is an unrestricted, discretionary resource. Gifts to this fund gives the foundation the capacity to launch special initiatives, meet pressing 4-H needs as they arise, provide scholarship support, and capitalize on emerging opportunities to strengthen 4-H programs. Examples include state and national travel, event and registration fees, camp scholarship, college/trade school scholarship, emergency fund, etc.
PROJECT 4
New Dormitories
$2.9 Million
During Summer 2017, for the first time in our 100-year history, more than 200 4-H’ers were placed on an overnight summer camp waiting list. For a vast majority of Alabama’s youth, this is the only affordable opportunity for a sleep-away experience. 4-H staff continues to echo the message of “if we only had more space, we could accommodate more 4-H’ers.”

“4-H has helped my community by exposing kids to new and fun activities such as competitive events, outings, community services, and youth groups. 4-H has also been a safe haven for most kids and has given them the opportunity to be outside, move and interact with more people.”
The 4-H Foundation Board is responding to these concerns about our overnight summer camp capacity, which currently is limited to 185 campers at any one time. Board members, along with statewide 4-H staff and support from the Alabama Cooperative Extension System have developed a capacity-expansion plan that will meet tomorrow’s growth trends today. The immediate priority is to increase capacity by 65 percent by constructing two new dormitories to increase camper capacity to 120 additional youth
at any given time.
Note: The cost of the new dormitories is not included in the vision goal. They will, over time, pay for themselves as we will be able to add additional revenue-building corporate functions in these spaces.
